My Hobbies

I began playing the piano at the age of 3 and developed a strong passion for music from an early age. Through years of disciplined practice and formal training, I completed the ABRSM Grade 8 examination by the age of ten. I have also participated in numerous piano competitions, where I earned multiple awards and gained valuable performance experience.

I have been practicing street dance since third grade, mainly focusing on breaking and hip-hop, including floorwork and other ground-based movements. Over the years, I have performed at several events and participated in a few dance competitions. I have also performed for my elementary and middle school communities on multiple occasions, which gave me experience dancing in front of larger audiences. Street dance has remained a long-term hobby that allows me to express myself creatively while continuing to develop my confidence, coordination, and performance skills.

I have been fencing since seventh grade, when I began training at 运动线环鱼击剑俱乐部 in China. Épée has always been my primary weapon, and I trained consistently several times a week, eventually participating in a few competitions in China. After moving to the United States for school, I joined my school’s fencing team, where I was required to switch to foil. Learning a different weapon challenged me to adapt my technique and strategy, and I went on to compete in several foil tournaments with my team. Fencing has remained an important hobby for me.

I volunteer at Seven Oaks Community Center, where I help senior citizens with everyday technology problems and questions. I assist with smartphones, computers, device settings, photos, account management, and other technical issues that can be difficult to navigate. I also participate in community tech-support sessions where seniors can bring in their devices and receive one-on-one help. Sometimes the questions are simple, such as navigating an app or changing a setting, while other times the problems are more complex and require deeper technical knowledge and troubleshooting.

I first became interested in photography when I took Digital Photography in 10th grade. What began as a class soon became a lasting hobby that I continued exploring outside of school. I enjoy capturing everyday moments, interesting compositions, and places that catch my attention, while experimenting with lighting, perspective, and editing.

Soccer has always been a more casual hobby for me, but it is something I consistently enjoy and practice. I often play pickup games with friends, using them as a chance to improve my skills while having fun. I also played two seasons on my school soccer team, where I gained experience playing in a more competitive and organized environment. Some of my favorite memories are scoring a game-winning goal against a rival school, small scrimmages during practices, and going to local pick-up games with friends.
